Photo taken in the summer of 1964. Among other things, they filmed our archaelogical excavations at a prehistoric American Indian site at Kukak Bay. This was the year after he led the first successful American ascent of Mount Everest. In contrast to the fancy National Geographic photo equipment they had, I took this picture with an old Kodak Box Camera with Kodak Ektachrome color slide film.

"Loretta King (1917-2007) was a beautiful and talented actress busy mainly on stage and television in Hollywood in the 1950s; who made but a handful of motion pictures. She only came to worldwide public attention- indeed of cult fame- on the release of Tim Burton's 1995 film, Ed Wood - the story of the life the low budget film director, Edward D Wood Jr (1924-1978), whom Hollywood never gave a break in his lifetime.
Loretta King was selected by Wood in 1954 when he was casting his horror picture Bride of The Atom (later to be known as Bride of The Monster) - and chose Loretta as his female lead. The film also contains the last good performance of the then broke former star Bela Lugosi.
The Golden Age of Hollywood - the films & their stars of the first half of the 20th Century have fascinated me since my teens; and lead to my biographical research of the lesser known players. I like people to be remembered and on contacting Ed Wood's New York biographer Rudolph Grey, he kindly gave me Loretta King's Los Angeles address; through which he had interviewed her in the 1980s. I had just created a group cartoon tribute 'Hollywoods Golden Age Ladies Today' (2003) - to be seen on this site- and sent a copy together with a letter of my admiration.
I actually did not expect to hear from the long-retired actress but just before Christmas she sent be the beautiful dedicated photograph and a lovely letter expressing how overwhelmed she was to be included with the stars.
I then decided to surprise and lift her with cartoon tribute cards, created for her, knowing that her health was frail - and so began a correspondence, mainly by telephone, lasting to her death at 90. So many times I would tell this star, who had received no accolades, that she was one of the greatest beauties to have graced the screen; and her humble response was a gentle, "Well!...Thank you"
Shown here, her 1940s publicity shot, a card from the lady; and copies of three of the original cartoon tributes made for Loretta King....Hollywood's 'Bride of The Monster' "
